After Seven Years of Persistent Advocacy, Reaching the Supreme Court of India

  In response to our case, the Supreme Court has issued an order, and here are the key points:  

  1. The affidavit filed by the Union of India reveals that the states and union territories listed below have not formulated rules under Section 101 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016:
   - Andhra Pradesh    - Chattisgarh    - Maharashtra    - Union Territory of Ladakh  
  1. Additionally, the following states and union territories have not constituted District Level Committees under Section 72 of the Act:
   - Andhra Pradesh    - Kerala    - Union Territory of Chandigarh    - Union Territory of Dadar and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu    - Union Territory of Ladakh    - Union Territory of Lakshadweep  
  1. Notice will be issued to the above-mentioned states and union territories, with the liberty to serve the respective Standing Counsel.
 
  1. Ms. Madhavi Divan, Additional Solicitor General, has informed the Court that more information has become available to the Union Ministry after the counter-affidavit was filed. She wishes to place a comprehensive affidavit on the record, and permission to do so has been granted within a period of two weeks.
 
  1. The case will be listed for the next hearing on May 12, 2023.
  This is a significant step forward in our pursuit of justice and rights for all, and it demonstrates that our persistent efforts have not been in vain. We will continue to work towards ensuring that the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 is effectively implemented in all states and union territories.
