#MAKING_LIVED_EXPERIENCES_MATTER I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Shubha from IIT Hyderabad and Dr. Bindu from TISS Mumbai for affording me one of the most empowering experiences during the past two days and three nights at IITH through the conference. Firstly, I am deeply touched that you considered inviting me as a speaker, acknowledging that I may not fit the traditional academic mold yet valuing my voice and work. Secondly, your tolerance and accommodation of my imperfections were truly appreciated. Thirdly, I commend the punctuality and professionalism maintained throughout the conference, coupled with a sense of flexibility and fun, which is no small feat, especially in a hybrid mode with such a diverse group. Fourthly, the attention to detail in ensuring comfort regarding travel, food, accommodation, and constant checks to ensure everything was satisfactory did not go unnoticed. Fifthly, I am grateful for not concluding the conference within the four walls but rather committing to continue the conversation forward. For me, research papers represent the real-life stories of individuals whose lives and voices matter, often overlooked unless backed by academic validation. I hope that collectively, we can shake up all four pillars of our democracy. Ground-level executive changes require a clear legislature, with the media disseminating information accessible to all, enabling them to approach the judiciary to reclaim their rights. Academia has the potential to influence all of these spheres. A special thank you and warm hugs to dear Priyasha and Thasfiya for their hospitality, always cheerful, upbeat, and full of infectious energy, ensuring everyone's needs were taken care of at all times! I will soon be sharing a series of posts to shed light on yet another first-hand experience of "epistemic violence," this time from an autistic self-advocate. This underscores the importance of creating spaces for every voice to thrive, be understood, and supported. I am immensely grateful for all the learnings from this experience. And for some trivia! I was captivated by "my bottle" provided at the conference, and despite being unable to take it home, I promptly ordered one online. Do check them out; they are super cute! Following the conference, we enjoyed a delightful gathering over dinner, and the ensuing discussions were truly enriching. Despite our flight delay of 5 hours, we had the opportunity to reconnect at the airport and share our stories. I return home recharged like never before, with a renewed sense of purpose and determination. Miles to go, but with newfound inspiration and support, I am ready to take on the journey ahead!
