A Special Birthday Gift for Ammoomma: Honoring the Love for Education

August 29, 2020

A Special Birthday Gift for Ammoomma: Honoring the Love for Education   On this special day, I dedicate a meaningful birthday gift to you, Ammoomma. Your unwavering belief in the power of education and your advocacy for using it as a tool to push one's own limits and bring out our best have left a profound impact. This gift is more than just a paper clip; it's a full page, Ammoomma!   I can envision it finding its place in your maroon diary, alongside the stories of our district players, state champions, and many more that you so dearly cherished. If it included your children or grandchildren, it was always a BIG deal.   Today, I think of you with great fondness, wishing I could show it to you in person just to witness that special look on your face. It wouldn't be a look of excessive praise but a smile that quietly says, "Of course, I knew my grandchild would achieve great things." You would likely question why my picture is at the bottom when you believe it should have been at the top. You'd make me promise to make it up next time.   I'm particularly thrilled today because this gift is about education, your playing field. Tonight, I hope you shine bright up there.   Quote Unquote: "The MIND Rules!"   As quoted by Seema Lal, Co-founder and Executive Trustee of TogetherWeCan Kpochi, parents have a significant role to play in a child's learning process. Post-Covid, the role of parents in the learning process has become even more pronounced. One of the major challenges in the learning process is the absence of a conducive learning environment at home. The second challenge is gadget or screen addiction. Education truly begins at home, and parents need to be educated about the laws and guidelines.   Furthermore, education is not solely the responsibility of schools and teachers. It's equally a responsibility of parents, and it should be a partnership between schools and homes. The National Education Policy (NEP) holds great promise provided the guidelines are correctly implemented at the state level. The critical question is whether we are using technology to augment education or if we see it as an alternative for teachers. It cannot replace teachers but should complement their efforts.   Link to the full talk can be found here: Watch the full talk
