ABHISARA’23

June 18, 2023

Introduction: ABHISARA'23 was an extraordinary event, a culmination of my lifelong dedication as a psychologist specializing in autism and related fields. The gathering was a celebration of diversity and a powerful promoter of inclusivity in our society.   Unveiling Lived Experiences: The heart of ABHISARA'23 was dedicated to unveiling the lived experiences of individuals on the autism spectrum. A central highlight of the event was the thought-provoking presentation by Mr. Debashis Paul. As the author of "I have autism and I like to play bad tennis," Mr. Paul shared his personal journey as a parent of an autistic child. His story resonated with many, offering profound insights into the world of autism and the challenges faced by families. The presentation highlighted the importance of empathy and understanding in supporting individuals on the autism spectrum.   Amplifying Non-Speaking Voices: ABHISARA'23 introduced a groundbreaking publication, "Talking Fingers." This remarkable book was co-authored by non-speaking autistic individuals, shedding light on their unique and invaluable perspectives. These voices, often marginalized, found a platform to express their thoughts, experiences, and emotions. It was a powerful reminder that communication is not confined to speech alone and emphasized the significance of listening to every individual, regardless of their mode of expression.   Insights from Legal and Media Experts: The event featured distinguished guests who brought their expertise to the forefront. Adv. Santhosh Mathew, a legal expert, shared invaluable insights into the legal aspects surrounding autism. He discussed the challenges faced by individuals with autism and their families in navigating legal systems. Sudha Nambudiri, an accomplished writer and media personality, provided a unique perspective on the role of media in raising awareness about autism. Her presentation emphasized the power of the written word in creating understanding and acceptance.   Nurturing Life Skills and Vocational Training: ABHISARA'23 also spotlighted "Ausome Bites," a vocational training initiative initiated by Autism Club Ernakulam. This program focuses on nurturing essential life skills and vocational training for individuals with autism. Through Ausome Bites, these individuals gain the necessary skills and opportunities to excel in baking and confectionery, contributing to their self-reliance and independence.   The Essence of Collaboration: The overarching theme of ABHISARA'23 was collaboration. I envisioned a society where diverse perspectives are celebrated, and equal opportunities are extended to all. The event emphasized the importance of working together to create a harmonious and inclusive world, where every journey and story is valued.   Conclusion: ABHISARA'23 was a transformative experience, driven by the collaborative efforts of all involved. It served as a platform to celebrate diversity, promote inclusivity, and recognize the significance of listening to every individual's unique journey and story. The event's vision is clear - to create a world where equal opportunities are extended to all, and everyone's voice is heard.   Join the Journey: ABHISARA'23 invites you to join the journey towards inclusivity and collaboration. Together, we can make a difference by building a society that values everyone and embraces diverse perspectives. Let us continue to amplify the voices of individuals on the autism spectrum and nurture a more inclusive and harmonious world
