#FREEDOM

August 15, 2022

#FREEDOM is when we can make informed choices. #FREEDOM is having the Knowledge, Skill, and Support system to take responsibility – The ability to choose our responses. #FREEDOM is knowing that anxiety, sadness, and anger are going to be a daily part of our lives. #FREEDOM is knowing how to experience all emotions and realizing that we only have control over ourselves and our reaction to our external circumstances. #FREEDOM is going with the flow of the things we can’t control. #FREEDOM is breaking free from society’s expectations and living the life that is meaningful to us. #FREEDOM is a state of mind.   I recently conducted a session with Thanal Palliative and Paraplegic Care, particularly in their new venture - the Counselling & Guidance Centre, which is building a task force to address the growing issues of addictions of various kinds.   In Module 3, we delved into understanding addiction within the framework of mental health. It's essential to avoid quick judgments or labeling when dealing with individuals facing addiction. It's not about merely saying "no" to drugs or addictions; we must understand the underlying factors.   Change, especially in the context of addiction, is an internal process. It requires a willingness to commit to new actions while also acknowledging and accepting the triggers and fears that come with it. Recognizing these emotions and taking steps towards change are different but necessary processes for improving mental health.   Progress in this journey is often challenging, but it's an important step towards a more fulfilling and mentally healthy life.
