This article arrived exactly when it was needed. Kidiki - a deck of cards created by David Soni - it’s a window through which one can gently peek into one’s own self. A tool for those moments when reflection feels out of reach, when words hide, and we need a little help finding our way back to what’s happening within. We use the word “triggered” so easily now. “That triggered me.” “This is triggering.” But do we really wait to understand what’s happening within us when we say it? Dr. Gabor Maté’s work shifted that understanding for me. He speaks about how the explosion doesn’t come from the trigger itself, it comes from the ammunition already inside us. The shame, fear, or stored pain waiting to be met. When the gun is empty, the trigger doesn’t harm. That simple truth has been my ongoing unlearning. Kidiki came from that same space of compassion from David’s own lived experiences of navigating emotional pain and wanting to make wellbeing accessible beyond the few who can afford therapy. He imagined a tool that could help people pause before reacting, and stay in conversation even when it’s uncomfortable. Grateful to MyndStories for offering a live demo that beautifully showed how Kidiki can be used. I’ve used the cards myself and with others across age and contexts - it helped. When I was in conflict, not just with others but within myself - it helped. It guides one back to what our bodies already know but our words have forgotten. If we could all reconnect with those wounded parts within us, we’d wound others a little less. And even when we did, we’d have the capacity to stay, to listen, to repair, to understand. Kidiki is David’s invitation to sense, feel, and find your way back home to yourself, through reflection, conversation, and the simple act of listening within.
