Talk on mental health and related topics for students in grades 8 to 12.

November 23, 2023

Navy Children's School Kochi, in collaboration with NWWA, recently organized a talk on mental health and related topics for students in grades 8 to 12. The energy and enthusiasm of the massive audience were palpable, making it an empowering experience to hold their attention for two hours. Interacting with children and hearing their candid questions about mental health, education, parenting, and emotions reaffirms the need to broaden our educational focus beyond traditional academic subjects. It's evident that there's a rich inner world within each student that goes beyond textbooks and exams. During the session, students raised thought-provoking questions, including: What if we struggle to understand our own emotions and therefore find it challenging to seek help? What does "letting go" truly entail? How should we handle situations where teachers doubt our honesty and complain to our parents? What if our parents also dismiss our concerns? How can we cope when our mind goes blank during exams? When overwhelmed by anger, how can we channel our emotions constructively instead of resorting to violence? I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Bhargavi Ajit (NWWA) for her unwavering dedication to her cause and her efforts to make a positive impact in Kochi. Bhargavi's passion and commitment shine through as she effortlessly facilitates connections between speakers and the audience, enriching the learning experience for everyone involved. I also want to express my appreciation to my sister, Veena Lal, who surprised me by attending the event incognito. Her support and the love shared by the audience, particularly for their beloved teacher, added an extra layer of warmth and joy to the occasion. As we navigate through these meaningful conversations and continue to learn and grow together, I'm reminded of the profound impact that genuine connection and understanding can have on our collective well-being. Let's continue to foster open dialogue and support each other in our journeys toward mental and emotional resilience.
